Tutoring
I offer 50-minute sessions driven by agreement between the parents, the student, and me about how best to support the student's learning. These one-on-one sessions will typically take place in my downstairs learning space. I record all sessions and share recordings with families to help students remember what we discussed.
We can review and strategize homework, prepare for upcoming tests or projects, and discuss strategies for improving their executive function (self-management of time and resources). My base rate is $50 per session. Help outside of tutoring time can be purchased as an add-on at $50/hour of recorded responses. I am always willing to discuss other needs. We will finalize all agreements before work begins.
Test Preparation
Because test preparation needs vary, it isn't easy to put a single price on this. I would prefer to have students meet with me weekly for nine weeks, where we could take three practice tests, and have equal sessions of verbal/writing and math content review. I will provide some electronic materials, and I will recommend one or two paperback books to augment our use of Khan Academy and other resources based on the students' needs. Expect this course to cost $700, covering 9 50-minute sessions, preparation, and reproduction costs for me. The additional texts would likely be less than $100. All prices will be finalized before work begins.
If you have more immediate needs, we can negotiate a "cram course." These costs will depend on the number of visits and the preparation required.
College Admissions Preparation
Having lived and worked at colleges of many sizes and types, I am well-qualified to help you prepare for college applications. Furthermore, I successfully applied for numerous college scholarships, as well as several successfully funded grants. The similarities between the two types of applications are surprisingly many. That makes me uniquely well-suited to help you earn scholarships to pay for your post-secondary education.
My coaching program does not require in-person visits, but instead will feature online conferences to explore topics like: identifying prospective schools, budgeting for application fees, possible majors, the merits of community college, identifying scholarships, drafting authentic essays, and strategizing college visits. I will also include my availability to review applications before submission and, when you're successful, strategies for successfully navigating your first year.
We will negotiate all costs based on your needs, but you can count on $50/session for each meeting
